The Breed Information
and Snoopy Fun Day which was held on Sunday 22nd April went very
well and though it seemed like it could rain, fortunately it
didn't! This time we decided to break the morning into two parts,
starting with the talks, then the AQIS and obedience
demonstrations and finally the games. This seemed to work very
well as people who had been before and who didn't want to hear the
talks again left their arrival until the demonstrations and games
started. This meant that the "newbies" got to hear the speakers
without too much interruption and hopefully learned more about
caring for their beagle.
At a rough count by the
end of the morning, there
were over 80 people and accompanying beagles in attendance. It
was a great sight seeing so many beagles of all shapes, colours
and sizes - all obviously enjoying the day and being able to sniff
each other and make new friends.
The Prizes and the Raffle

The morning started
with a welcome from the President, Gwenda Golding who thanked
everyone for coming, spoke a little bit about the Club and then
introduced the first speaker, John New, the Walks Co-ordinator.
John talked about the Club's fun activities, including the
Sniffing Around Sydney Walks and the Christmas in July Scent
weekend in Cootamundra.
The Speakers

The microphone was then handed to Leanne Coffey who, assisted by
"Coco" and Jan, gave a talk on caring for your beagle which
included grooming, nail clipping and ear cleaning. The
next speaker was Bev James, our Health Research Co-ordinator who
spoke generally about feeding and ways to keep our
beagles healthy. Our last speaker
for the morning was Pam Murphy, the Obedience Co-ordinator who
talked about leads and harnesses and how to keep your
beagle under control when out for a walk.
The AQIS Beagle Brigade demonstration

We were then treated to a wonderful exhibition by Campbell and
"Angus" from the AQIS Beagle Brigade. A huge
thank you to both of them for coming along and showing us
what a wonderful job these beagles are doing at the airport by
helping to stop the illegal import of plants and food that could
have a disastrous effect in Australia. Campbell then asked
for a volunteer to be a Trainee Detector Dog Trainer and it was
very entertaining to watch Coby Smith do his best to get "Angus"
to do his stuff.
The Obedience Demonstration

Everyone then moved to the Obedience ring that had been set up to
see Pam Murphy with "Plugger" and Cecily Gwynne with "Ebony" give
a wonderful demonstration. Hopefully some of the new (and some not
so new) beagle owners learned that their beagles can be trained!
The games were
ably organised by Sue Bownds and were once again very hotly
contested as there was lots of cheering for favourites in all the
different games. In the Best Fancy Dressed Beagle there were many
great entries making it very hard for the judge, our Patron, Mrs
Betty Stopford to decide on the winners. Congratulations to all the winners and place-getters,
even though some of you may not have won a prize you still got to
go home with the best beagle/s!
At the end of the games
there was a chance to have beagles heights measured (thanks to Don
James).
A huge thank you to all
the Committee that were there on the day. Everyone worked together
very well and certainly helped make the day the success it was.

Thanks to our photographer on the day-
Ross Reid!
