Our latest Breed Information and Snoopy Fun Day was held on Sunday
30 May 2010 and it went very well. I have to report that despite
the gloom and doom weather forecast for the day, once again the
Bureau of Meteorology was way off the mark. Up until Friday 28th
May, the weather forecast was for heavy rain periods, and strong
winds. In fact the forecast was so bad, that our “Rescue Roundup”
was cancelled by Gwenda (our Rescue Coordinator). This event had
been widely advertised, and at last count, Gwenda had around 70
adults, lots of children, and around 56 rescue beagles coming to
the event, which was to take place after the Snoopy Fun Day at the
same venue. In order to be able to contact all those coming,
Gwenda made the decision on that Friday to cancel the event due to
the weather forecast.
And what happened? The Snoopy Fun Day went ahead (we had booked
the undercover ring in case of inclement weather), and it ended up
a fine sunny day! At 10.00am, it appeared to be rather a poor
turnout, but by 11.00am when the games were scheduled to start, it
was fine and sunny with just a light breeze, and suddenly there
was quite a crowd of around 60 people, and up to 40 Beagles. So
the day was quite successful, and some of the games were conducted
in the grass rings at Castle Hill in the lovely sunshine.
Meeting & greeting!

Our Publicity Officer, Ross Reid, was taking lots of photos, and
the crowd got to fever pitch in the “fastest eater” competition.
In fact, there were so many competitors, we had 6 heats, with 6
greedy Beagles in each heat. All the place-getters in the various
competitions were officially photographed on the Club’s dais.
Unfortunately, there is insufficient time to present our full
report on the Snoopy Fun Day in this month’s Harking In, but stay
tuned for the July edition.
Thank you to all those on the Committee who helped out on the day,
especially those who prepared talks; Bev James who spoke on health
issues, John New on our walks, Sue Bownds on showing your Beagle,
and Carole Woolcock on grooming. Sue also (despite not being in
the best of health) organised all the games, which were very
popular.

Our refreshment bar was manned by Carole Woolcock, and Dave and
Cris Baldry arrived early to help set up, as well as Don James who
had already brought the Club’s trailer up to the pavilion before I
even arrived.
Dave Baldry did a great job as a linesman and judge in the
“fastest eater” competition, as there were some very close “photo
finishes”. There were a few fussy eaters, but some of those
beagles were like industrial strength vacuum cleaners. I believe
the Club made around $80 on the raffle, and there were quite a few
donations as well. The Club offers a special membership price at
the Snoopy Fun Day, and 3 new members took advantage of that.

Thank you also to Ross
Reid, our roving reporter for the morning – a job well done!
